Grant Schemes






Co. Cavan V.E.C. operates 3 schemes of assistance for students resident in Co. Cavan who propose attending PLC/3rd level Colleges.

1. PLC Maintenance Grant Scheme
This scheme applies to students pursuing approved PLC courses in PLC Colleges/Schools anywhere in the 26 counties including Cavan College of Further Studies.

2. TLT Maintenance Grant Scheme
This scheme applies to students pursuing approved National Certificate/Diploma courses in the various I.T. Colleges, i.e. Dundalk, Athlone, Sligo etc. D.I.T. Colleges i.e. Bolton St., Kevin St., etc. (students may also pursue 1st year of some Athlone Courses, at C.C.F.S.)

3. Scholarships Scheme
This scheme applies to students pursuing approved
(1) Degree Course at I.T.’s
(2) Approved HND and some degree courses at various Northern Ireland Colleges i.e. Fermanagh College, Enniskillen etc.
(3) Approved Degree Courses in Dublin City University, University of Limerick, Crawford School of Art, Cork, Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design & Technology (N.C.E.A. Approved Courses only), National College of Ireland (N.C.E.A. Approved Course only).

ELIGIBILITY

1. Residency

Parents of applicant or in the case of independent mature candidate, the applicant, must be resident in County Cavan.

2. Age
Must be 17 years on 01-01-2008.

3. Nationality
Candidates must hold E.U. Nationality,

  • or have official refugee Status,

  • or have been granted Humanitarian Leave to remain in the State,

  • or have permission to remain in the State by virtue of marriage to an Irish national residing in the State, or be the child of such person not having EU nationality,

  • or have permission to remain in the State by virtue of marriage to a national of another EU Member State who is residing in the State and who is or has been employed, or self-employed in State, or be the child of such a person, not having EU nationality,

  • or be a national of a member country of the European Economic Area (EEA).

4. Income
Applicants are means tested based on parents’ income or in the case of independent mature candidate, the applicant and applicant’s spouses income.

Please note that under the above 3 schemes regardless of what College the applicant proposes to attend, application for grant must be made through Co. Cavan Vocational Education Committee.

Application forms

All three schemes have a common application form i.e. if a student intends going to an I.T. College and changes his/her mind and attends a PLC College for instance there is no need to complete a new application form.
