Cavan Institute has been providing education and training programmes of the highest quality in a caring and supportive environment since 1985. The College welcome students of all ages, nationalities and abilities.
Cavan Institute is now amongst the largest Colleges of Further Education in the country. At the moment there are over 50 courses on offer with the number of students applying for courses is steadily increasing from year to year. Staff, who are friendly and approachable, deliver vocational courses, the content of which is regularly reviewed to ensure that the needs of local industry are met. Industry links are an important aspect of college life and any skills shortage experienced by employers is quickly identified and rectified by the provision of appropriate courses.
Cavan Institute is a major provider of FETAC Awards at Level 5 (NCVA Level 2) and Level 6 (NCVA Level 3). Cavan Institute has a long established relationship with Athlone Institute of Technology. Cavan Institute offers a number of Business and Social Care HETAC courses in co-junction with Athlone Institute of Technology. Application is via the CAO or direct to Cavan Institute. Students complete Year 1 of their studies in Cavan, before transferring to Athlone to complete Year 2.
The Institute offers an extensive range of courses specifically directed towards employment demands. Courses include Business Studies, Office Administration, Teleservices, Computer Programming, Computer Applications, Travel and Tourism, Leisure Studies, Art, Craft and Design, Accounting, Auctioneering, Hairdressing, Interior and Furniture Design, Floristry, Security Studies, Beauty Therapy, Sports Therapy, Cultural Studies, Nursing Studies, Drama, Music, Classroom Assistant, Child Care and Social Studies.

The above programs offers students nationally and internationally recognised certification in a wide range of disciplines. The standards set by the awarding bodies are widely accepted by employers and also provide progression to Further and Higher Education.
The Higher Education Links scheme operates on FETAC courses at Cavan Institute Students who successfully complete a course at Cavan Institute can apply through this scheme to continue their studies in a related area in the Institute of Technology and some Universities. In some cases students may apply for direct entry to Year 2 of a course at an Institute of Technology or University.
In recent years Cavan Institute has established a number of links specifically for its graduates with Athlone IT, Dundalk IT, NUI Maynooth, University of Wolvehampton and Canterbury Christchurch University. These are in addition to the progression routes available under the Higher Education Links scheme.
Students taking courses at Cavan Institute are eligible for maintenance grants, which are means tested. There are no tuition fees for the majority of courses. Examination fees, membership fees of professional bodies and other sundry items are payable at various times through out the year.
