County Cavan VECEC offers a range of Adult Basic Education programmes for adults with literacy/numeracy difficulties. The programme strives to provide a wide range of choice for students in regard to the nature, location and timetabling of learning opportunities. Tuition is offered on a one-to-one or small group basis and the service is free of charge. New forms of provision to meet particular client group’s needs have been developed such as workplace literacy, family literacy, traveller literacy, and high support literacy. Our literacy participants can progress to other courses to increase their job skills and life skills. These include FETETAC Communications, Computers and Child Development.
Our mission is: “To provide quality adult basic education courses which recognises the adult status of the learner. A free and confidential service based on the needs of the individual will be on offer at all times. In carrying out this mission CALC will endeavour to support the work of the tutors both voluntary and paid in terms of on-going training and supports”

PJ – Adult Learner - Computer Applications – FETAC Level 4
“Enrolling for the computer course that County Cavan VEC ran in Ballyjamesduff was one of the best decisions I ever made. After being diagnosed with hypertension in 2003, I was advised by my doctor to find a less strenuous job than the one I was doing. When I told my employer I was doing a computer course he kept it in mind and when a vacancy came up in the Quality/Stock Control Department he offered me a job there. Having learned the basics on the course, it was a lot easier to learn how to operate their specially designed stock control system. I am now two years back in employment and half way through my E.C.D.L. course. Many thanks to County Cavan V.E.C.”
